The 2013-2018 world day of struggle with arterial hypertension "Know digits of your HELL." If hypertension is detected in a timely manner, it is possible to minimize the risk of heart attacks, stroke, cardiac and renal failure. Therefore, special attention is paid to training of the population.

The likelihood of developing high blood pressure and its adverse effects can be minimised by the following measures:

  • Encourage a healthy lifestyle with emphasis on proper nutrition for children and young people
  • Reducing salt intake to less than 5 g of salt per day
  • The consumption of five servings of fruits and vegetables a day
  • Reducing consumption of saturated fats and total fats
    • Failure from alcohol abuse
    • Regular physical activity
  • Maintain a normal body weight
  • Cessation of tobacco use and exposure to tobacco products
  • Proper control of stress

Individuals who already have hypertension, can actively participate in monitoring their condition by taking the following measures:

  • adherence to norms of healthy behavior listed above;
  • monitoring blood pressure at home if possible;
  • control of blood sugar, cholesterol levels in the blood and albumin level in urine;
  • the ability to assess cardiovascular risk using a risk assessment tool;
  • adherence to medical recommendations;
  • regular use of any prescribed medicines to lower blood pressure.
